Looking at the replies on the issue and the click versioning policy at https://palletsprojects.com/versions, it seems critical that spin releases always add an upper bound on click. Any pip install spin is broken right now, which is super disruptive especially in CI of projects using spin. Doing this is also explicitly recommended at https://palletsprojects.com/versions#pinning-versions-and-constraints (spin is an application, not a library).

Deprecating warnings are also generally invisible to users of spin, because everything runs in subprocesses.
